First base mitts are their own animal — a long, curved, single-piece design with a scooping pocket that has to pick balls out of the dirt and stretch for wide throws. We break in, relace, and fully restore first base mitts for baseball and softball, shaped for the scoop, at the same flat pricing as any glove.
Why a first base mitt is different
Unlike a fielder’s glove, a first base mitt has no individual finger stalls and a long, shallow, curved pocket built for scooping and stretching. Break it in like a regular glove and it won’t scoop right. We form the pocket for picks and stretches and soften the hinge so it closes fast around the throw.
Break-in & restoration
New first base mitts are stiff and need a proper break-in ($65). Older ones with frayed laces, a broken-down pocket, or a worn edge get a full relace and restoration ($95): teardown, clean, condition, fresh laces, pocket re-shape, and re-break.
- Scoop-ready pocket formation
